seo and web standards
3.19.2004
I prepared a few materials for my co-workers about a week ago, in the interest of helping everyone get up to speed on the benefits of coding to web standards, especially as they apply to search engine optimization. And since I'm starting to get some indication that I have at least a few readers who are interested in that kind of stuff, I'm offering the goods here, such as they are.
They are:
- a brief analysis of onetruefit.com (PDF)
- a sample HTML page utitlizing standards-based code
- the related CSS file
The HTML and CSS files have plenty of comments explaning the reasoning behind the code. These are informal and somewhat hastily prepared — kind of like a crib sheet you'd give to a pal. They're for educational purposes only — I don't want to see any Maddenmedia clone sites cropping up on the Web. But y'all wouldn't do that to me, right? Didn't think so.
If you're a regular reader of any of the sites in my "reading" sidebar, all this stuff will be old hat to you. I'm not claiming to be an expert or an innovator — just a designer trying to keep up with the times. That's difficult enough.
